Overview

Texas Hunter Ed is required for all hunters born after 1971 and is designed for novice and youth hunters, ages 9 years and above. At the core of BirdDog's mission is helping new hunters develop a love of the outdoors and to make great memories. We partner with various landowners and organizations to host Hunter Ed courses that are both educational and fun. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation.

Package

This event is intended to be a more personal hunter education course. The course is from 9:00am-4:00pm. All course materials are provided, and the fee includes lunch, a t-shirt, goodie bag, and range & skeet shooting. Students are responsible for bringing their own firearms and ammo or rent from Elm Fork Shooting Sports for an additional fee. 


Course

Upon arrival, guests will register for the course. The classroom portion will last approximately 6 hours, and during breaks, guests will have an opportunity to practice what they've learned by shooting range targets & sporting clays (price for range & clays included in registration). Guests will receive precise driving directions to the event a week before the course. Hunters may bring a shotgun & ammo for sporting clays practice but are not required as firearms will be available for use onsite.

Pertinent course details are as follows: 

  • Hunters are required to attend the entire course.
  • After the classroom portion of the course Hunters will take a written exam. A score of at least 75% is required  to pass.
  • Upon successful completion, you will receive a temporary card from the instructor. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile. 
  • Hunters will register for the course at the TPWD site upon arrival.

When do I get details about my booked hunt?

You will receive an email with additional details about your hunt immediately after booking, and location details will be sent one week prior to your hunt.

Do I need a license in order to hunt?

Most types of game listed on BirdDog require a license. When hunted on private property, those that do not require a license include: hogs, coyotes, bobcats, and other nuisance animals.
